One Voice opened today! What is One Voice you might be asking? It’s a fundraising event that was put together in order to help support Gala Phoenix, the owner and creative force behind the store Curio. Gala had some legal issues related to a DMCA resulting in her items being removed from the grid for the time being. For more info regarding that issue please read here.
“Curio’s Gala Phoenix is currently in the midst of legal issues which have resulted in her content being removed from the grid, pending the outcome of her legal battle. The Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) process in Second Life requires that when there is legal action taken against your content, Linden Lab will remove it from the grid until a ruling is made. Gala’s fellow content creators have come together to host a fundraiser to help with the enormous amount of legal fees she will have to bare in order to fight these baseless claims.
This fundraiser is not only to help Gala Phoenix, but to also take a stand for the community of content creators, for many of whom SL is their main source of income. This could happen to any one of us, and it’s necessary that we stand up and fight back to ensure that it doesn’t. ” This quote is from a notecard sent out inworld and it rings so true. If we as a community don’t pull together as bloggers, creators, shoppers etc to help support our own who else will? I definitely suggest you check out this event because it’s for an awesome cause.
A little side note: although there have been some issues with the sim being down. I spotted something on Plurk earlier about creators having their donation items rezzed at their stores. Also, the event runs from today (the 9th) until July 15th. Happy shopping ♥
